Enhancement Committee

April 7, 2004

  A. Durbridge called the meeting to order at 7:00 sharp.  As there was not a quorum at that time, the minutes were not approved.

Signs - A. Durbridge described the planting plan he designed for Welcome signs which allows for different conditions, deer, drought resistance, salt, highway conditions.  Consists of rocks and plants.  (10) signs total, w/ 2 signs not to be planted but heavily mulched. . 1 sign needs to be re installed, after damage. Another sign awaits complete installation, pending approval of private landowner located on RT. 22  [ Tally Ho].  Andy gave $4,000 in materials as ballpark estimate.  Stone border with 3 sides, add soil, mulch, spirea (3 feet max.) and daffodils.  One map will be left in Town Enhancement files.  Need to put on next agenda  budgeting for Townscape – report is needed from Treasurer Euvrard.  Appx. $3,000 in Townscape checking account which should be closed out.  Herb Eschbach was thanked for offering to complete Town Sign painting. He should advise Vicki or Andy if any additional materials are needed and when he needs help.

 2.  StreetscapeWassaic sidewalkVicki will work w/ Stan Whitehead to coordinate street lamps and sidewalk improvements with Wassaic.  Sharon Kroeger might want input.  Trees appropriate in this project?

FoodTown - Contact was made between Mark Morrison and the FoodTown owners regarding possible considerations of streetscape plans in any new proposal. The streetscape subcommittee is available, and hopes to also participate in a planning process.  Peter asked M. Morrison to be in contact w/ FoodTown, don’t know of outcome.

 3.  Communication & Development - Nan will ask Garret Corcoran to review promotion plans for Amenia and prepare coordination schedule for the Chamber’s Tech Fair slated for March 25, 2005. Website development has proceeded.

NYS Office For Technology is working with Town Board to develop a plan for implementation of the perceived Internet, and intranet needs.

 4.  Townscape - Nan:  several catalogues with prices would be good for this committee, at minimum.  Dolores:  resin pots ($60 kind) are not holding up.  Are we going to continue using old for this year?  Commmittee can ask Stan W. to remove old.  Andy:  funds within existing budget could provide for one or two barrel replacements.  J. Devine is chair of Townscape subcommittee but he has had health problem.  Need an interim or co-chair of this committee.  Vicki will ask Wayne Euvrard.  Dolores has list of what needs to be done. D. Holland has confirmed plans for the Amenia Garden Tour dates, and has asked me to include in this report that it will take place on Sunday June 27th. [rain date is Sun. July 4th].  Dolores will help for this year again only.

 5.  Façade Plan - Next agenda should include Erin Rollins for presentation of her work todate.  Mimi was away, but Vicki will pass Ann Linden’s historic photos to Mimi.

Erin took pictures of town buildings on Thursday March 25.   Mimi has façade agreements from Millbrook and will speak with Connie Clapp and NY Historic Preservation.

6.  Grant Librarian - Mary-Ann Wilkens will direct info on to Lisa Coon for futher investigation.  Lisa will also help in getting façade and streetscape plans to local businesses.  Nan sent Grants Action Newsletter to M. Wilkens.

Dolores:  Passed out info on new kind of sidewalks.  This was passed onto Stan W.

Andy will not be at next mtg. May 5, but P. Riva will be back by then.

Richard Poole will be here at next meeting and give us tips for street trees.  He should be put on the agenda, but at the end so we can stay and converse with him.  Diana King said he has planted 5,000 trees in McClean and has raised $7,000 simply by recycling paper each year to help pay for trees.  Diana:  Kildonan has community service program.  Could use them to plant daffodils, etc.  Do work every Wednesday afternoon, could clean up planters the Wed. before planting day.  Could utilize Kildonan on monthly program to help clean up Town.   Safety, planning, educational message needs to get beautification/enhancement out to public.  Maryanne Wilkens – Would be great idea to have place for recycling leaves, brush.  Stanley did make a nice mulch pile but people started dumping regular garbage.

Ann Linden has sponsored flags for Town businesses.  This group needs to take responsibility for getting them.  Poles are available at Dills.  Brackets should be available from True Value stores.  Contact all downtown businesses, ask if they would like a flag.  Maybe use chamber of commerce network to get info. out.

Need M. Morrison to report back on DOT coordination for May mtg.

 Meeting adjourned.

 Respectfully submitted by,  Vicki Doyle
