Recreation Minutes

March 2, 2004

1.  Intermunicipal Council – Need to set public hearing and enact local law for intermunicipal Ordinance at Mar. 18 Town Board meeting.  Currently, insurance cost will be shared equally by three municipalities.

Is there fair equity with our cost share of pool and camp ($5000) versus our sharing of ballfield light costs with Village of Millerton.  P Clair:  always has been  the feeling that Millerton is not sharing equitably in cost of ballfield lights.  T.J. Campion can fill us in on this cost.  Everyone has keys, Need to reissue locks to better control access to ballfield (and lights).

Soccer is used by others, baseball and soccer fundraising helps with lighting.  There is a trade off.

2.  Summer Rec. Program

Soccer – is an intermunicipal program, so Millerton can share in this cost.

Amenia donates $1,000, Webatuck Youth Soccer, Inc., has insurance, donates $100 to use the concession stand.   None of Towns wanted to do it because of liability.  Gary Murphy helped them incorporate, become own entity.  Mat Salmons might help relieve the others who are retiring, soccer and baseball might be candidates for intermunicipal.  Millerton baseball has gone downhill, are joining Amenia.  Perhaps combine, hire Rec Director together.

• Need better calendar to coordinate of all. Need to list, create brochure, get out on cable, website, what activities are being offered.

• Staff person needed to coordinate, be point person.  Seniors, School, Town, other two municipalities

• New ideas are okayed by Town Board.  Golf instruction was offered by Pontok: minimum of 10 kids, price?

• 2000-2001 – Had hired part-time Rec. Director – dual position, winter worked 20 hrs./week, did Easter Egg hunt (now volunteer) – need to find out if money is in budget, plan for 2005.

3.       Rec. Plan – Towns are hiring consultants to create plan to justify subdivision fees, typically $1,000 to $2,500 per lot.  Update 1974 Plan?   Will have funds, appx,. $2,000/mo from cell tower dedicated to Recreation.

Get Clough Harbour or Terry Horst to give presentation on Rec. Plan for next meeting April 6.  Need Lions Club to work with us

4.  2-Acre Parcel – find out how much down, find out from DEC

5.  Fundraising:

• Brian will ask about walk-a-thon, Three fire companies may get together and do cook-out in Millerton.

• Jackie will find out who is taking lead with breakfast concession.

6.  Maintenance/Fencing

• D. Katz:  Dan Shephard from Millbrook Fence will evaluate and give quote.   With menu of options.

7.   Baseball – P. Claire:  Signups starting in a couple of weeks, deadline is first week of April.  Aerating, limeing and reseeding by middle of April is ideal.  Pete will talk to Joe at Maplebrook School, have aerated in past.  Got fertilizer, lyme maybe seed from Crop Production Services (trade sign for stuff?  Should be reseeded 4 x / year,  Lime 2x/year.  Pete will call to see if can get this done this year.

Banners – intial cost high first year, after that, is cheaper:  6x3 banners, or could sell (2)  4’ spots.

  1.  Wassaic Park Clean Up

• Bleachers for Wassaic Park – get rid of bleachers.  Vicki will ask Hwy. Dept.

• Saturday, April 17, 10 AM - volunteer day – sand, paint.  Order swings.  FoodTown maintenance crew will help.

• Easter Egg Hunt 10 AM on April 10– Roger will talk to Fish Garme.

• Fill Easter Eggs Friday, April 9 at 1:00 at Town Hall.  Julia will order eggs and fillings.
