Recreation Commission Minutes – February 7, 2006

 

Attendance:  Pete Clair, Charlene Pollinger, Frankie O’Connell, Tom Werner, Mike Murnane, Linda Gregory.

Ken Pomeisl, Recreation Director and Town Board Liason Roger Russell

 

Monthly Budget Review – Question arose over last months’ overdrawn Directors salary line. We need to close out 2005.  Discussed need to set up voucher system.

 

Calender – A town employee will assist anyone in need of viewing the calendar on the GIS computer.

 

Website – Pete Clair requested that we count “hits” on our website.  Ken Pomeisl to arrange.

 

New Programs:  Linda is working on setting up Ballroom Dancing with the Amenia Elementary School and Bud Weber. And Adult Exercise is also being considered.

 

Swimming – Pete Clair will be handling the correspondence from Maplebrook in te future to set up the swimming program.

 

Concession Stand – Roger Russell to ask the legalities of sublet the stand out at the town board workshop.

 

Intermunicipal Recreation – a meeting is scheduled on February 14, 2006 with Dr. Johns, the Board of Education, Millerton and Northeast Recreation and Town Boards.

 

Pawling Corp/Salt Shed/Boarden Park Land – Pete Setaro, Roger Smith, Vicki Doyle, Ken Pomeisl met to discuss opportunities, i.e. access to Borden Park.  Roger Smith offered a $10,000 grant to spruce up the monument and parking area.  Access to Boarden was discussed and tabled.  Discussion regarding DEC adding a passive recreation to the attached southern property.  Pete Clair reiterated we still need signage for Borden Park.  The Commission would like to look into the Deed for Borden and Miller park.  Roger and Vicki to look into.

 

Recreation Master Plan – Tabled until next meeting.

 

Harlem Valley Rail Trail – proposals written by Ken Pomeisl to connect Wassaic to the Rail Trail. Commission is reviewing.

 

Mechanic Street connection from Rail Trail to Beekman Park – a request for the enhance committee to update us on progress.

 

 

Proposal for Lease – Pat Nelligan gave the Commission a proposal to lease for us to review and consider as we develop our Master Recreation Plan.

 

Lions Club  Signature Project – Linda has set up a February 8, 2006 meeting to review needs from Amenia Recreation and to discuss the plans for Beekman Park.  i.e. 2 more dugout and a pavilion.
