Amenia Recreation Commission Minutes

April 4, 2006

 

Attendance:  Pete Clair, Charlene Pollinger, Mike Murnane, Tom Werner, Frankie O’Connell, Linda Gregory

Ken Pomeisl, Recreation Director, Vicki Doyle, Town Board

 

Minutes were accepted from March 21st meeting. Motion made by Tom Werner seconded by Mike Murnane.

 

Summer Recreation Program:  Guests:  Bill Krakowsky and Jenn Parks gave an overview on the Summer Recreation Program and asked for feedback.  Discussion regarding extra time for counselors – tabled for further discussion at next meeting.  Linda will put advertisement out to school for Camp Counselor for Summer Rec Program. (Amenia pays for 5 counselors)  40 hour week at $7.00/hr.  min age 16.  the Program runs from June 26-Aug 18. Jenn requested that Amenia pays for one bus trip approximately $600.00 Tabled until next meeting.

 

Intermunicipal Recreation:  Tom Werner stated that they met and agreed on getting insurance and taking the ski program on.

 

Sewing Classes:  Lisa Bonelli is offering to do sewing classes for any age!  Discussion regarding is this Intermunicipal or Amenia’s program?  This would be a 6 week class for 2 hours a night at $25.00 per class.  Pete to inquire at school to see if we can use their sewing machines.

 

Voucher System:  Linda suggested that a process be put in place so we the Amenia Recreation Commission sanction how our monies are spent and from what line item.  Pete will speak with Janet and Rose and will report back at next meeting.  Not having a system in place could lead to budget problems.

 

Waterlines:  Silo Ridge to possibly going to assist us in putting in waterlines for the outfield.  They are also donating grass for the Little League infield.  Mark Kent, Pete and Ken have been meeting on this project. 

 

Concession Stand:  Pete spoke with the applicants and Traffic Deli was unanimously approved as our choice – Pete to complete contract with them.

 

Playground:  Parkitect is looking at the playground and designing one with budget and safety issues in mind.

 

Easter Egg Hunt:  April 9, 2006 at the Amenia Fish & Game at 2:00 p.m. Picture by Patty Barron with the Easter Bunny ( we supply the film)

 

Fishing Derby:  May 20 2006 contact Lion Ken Hale 373-9751 for details.

 

Farm League:  Pete announced that signups are done and that there were 110 kids signed up for softball this year!  Pete and Ken discussed having a program for coaches on “How to run a practice”:  more to follow.

 

Dance Program:  Linda has arranged for the Amenia Elementary School Gym on Tuesdays 6-8 p.m. from April 18-May 23. $120/person.  Advertisements have also been completed.

 

Tennis Classes:  Linda has arranged for the Webutuck High School Courts to be used by Instructor: Cami Euvrard to teach lessons ($40.00 for 4 week session and 1 hour session.)

 

Dance:  Vicki Doyle stated that she would look into getting a dance instructor (last year there were only 14 kids in the program – the board to revisit. Frankie O’Connell had asked Vicki about the equipment we supposedly purchased? Vicki stated that we did not purchase equipment only costumes.

 

Soccer:  Ken spoke with Dave Stanford regarding use of fields.

 

Fencing:  $7,740 estimate was presented to complete the fields. Discussion ensued as to take from parks and rec budget line. 

 

Tom Werner made motion to adjourn and seconded by Mike Murnane. At 9:50 p.m..
