Mission Statement

Pete Clair read our tentative Mission Statement.  Linda Gregory made a motion to accept statement and was seconded by Tom Werner. - unanimously approved. It reads as follows:

"The Recreation Commission is committed to providing opportunities and experiences that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages in Amenia.  We accomplish this through a diversity of recreational, social, and educational programs, services, events and facilities that meet both the individual and community needs."

Recreation Director Report

Recreation Director, Ken Pomeisl, stated that the soil test for the fields is being done by H. Esbaugh.

He also stated that he is developing a field maintenance plan.  Thanks Ken. This will become critical next year at budget time, we will have a clearer picture as to how much money is needed for the fields alone.  Ken also stated concern for safety at the fields in regards to the electrical keys.  Ken and Pete will make sure that the  appropriate individual (T.J. Campion) will have the necessary keys only.  Ken would also like to see the concession stand open for the season.  We all agreed and will look into doing that as soon as possible.

Dugouts/Lions Club

Linda Gregory gave report on Dugouts:  She met with the Lions Club and they are eager to begin work.  The Lions Club is donating their time and expertise to erect the dugouts.  The financials are to be absorbed by the Recreation budget.  Ken Pomeisl and Pete Clair agreed to give their input and  plans to the Lions. This project is expected to begin June/July 2005.

Senior Report

Orpha Thomas gave a wish list from the Seniors:  Indoor pool, bocce ball, shuffle board, horseshoe pits and mini golf.   She also reminded all of us of the Seniors Roast Beef Dinner, May 21, 2005  at the VFW 4:30/6:00 p.m. sittings.

Next meeting scheduled for June 7, 2005 at Town Hall.   Meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Pete Clair, Chairman
