Amenia Recreation Commission
Minutes
August
2, 2005
Present: Pete Clair,
Linda Gregory, Charlene Pollinger, Orpha Thomas, Frankie O’Connell, Tom Werner, Mike Murnane. School Liason: Tom Hodack. Town Board Liasons:
Roger Russell and Bill Carroll.
First Public Meeting called to order at 7:12 p.m. Pete
Clair introduced John Ryan, Landscape Architecture, PC . John gave a timeline and update on the
Recreation Master Plan. He had completed
the survey and it was to be mailed to all Amenia
residents. Once he has received all the
surveys, he was to report back to the Commission with the results sometime in
October. John Ryan also notified the
Board that he has been looking at publicly owned parcels along with privately
owned. (18 acres
across from Foodtown, Rennia
Gravel Mind, State School, Wassaic Ballfield/Town
Garage.) Pete Clair requested
that John Ryan maximize Beekman
Park facilitiy
first. John assured the Board that he
was meeting with DEC to utilize as much as the Park as possible. Pete reiterated
the currents needs of improving parking, maintenance on the ballfields
and the playground area. The first
Public Meeting was closed at 8:20 p.m.
Pete Clair, Chairman, call to order the regular monthly
Recreation Commission meeting at 8:22 p.m. An update on the dugouts. Linda Gregory, Chairman of the Signature
Project for the Amenia Lions Club informed the Board
that the softball field has a new slab poured for the
double dugout on the 3rd base line.
The completion is scheduled for the 27th and 28th of
this month. If anyone would like to come
and help, please do so. Two more dugouts
and a pavilion is scheduled to be done.
Pete Clair requested
that the Board approve a Rules and Regulation sign for the Wassaic
and Amenia Parks. Pete made a motion to get estimates for
signage, Frankie O’Connell seconded. The board voted unanimously approved. Tom Hodack suggested he speak with John Roccanova
from the High School it is possible the school could take on as a project. He will report back to the board.
Pete Clair stated that the Wassaic
Tag Sale was a huge success, he saw a lot of community
involvement. The Wassaic
Fire Company wants to do a joint Fall Festival, Pete will get more information.
The Pitching Machine was purchased $2,310.00 ($1,000 from the Little League/$800.00
from the softball line and the remainder from the VFW donation.
Lightning struck the Beekman Park
lights, The insurance policy to pay. Meeting adjourned
9:42 p.m.
