Amenia Recreation Commission Minutes

October 18, 2005

Attendance:  Pete Clair, Tom Werner, Charlene Pollinger, Orpha Thomas, Frankie O’Connell, Linda Gregory.

7:15 p.m. Called meeting to order.

Bonnie Hundt notified the Commission that Dr. Johns would not continue relations without going through the Intermunicipal Recreation.  The Ski Club was mentioned and the school will provide for this year.  Pete Clair will arrange a meeting with Dr. Johns to discuss and report back to Commission.

Darlene Reimer, CPIC Chair, gave presentation on referendum of the Allen Property.  Discussion ensued regarding costs to the taxpayers, reclamation and the aquifer effects.  The Recreation Commission took a hard stand and informed Ms. Reimer that we do not sanction this referendum and any propaganda involving Recreation because we have not been informed right from the beginning.  We soundly cannot make that commitment.

Tom Werner requested that the existing Wassaic Park be connected to the Rail Trail. We reiterated that the Recreation Commission is focused on maximizing the space we do have and not spend monies that we don’t have on possible land purchase. We, the Recreation Commission, is in our infancy, we must stay directed on working with what we have.

Bill Carroll stated he would like to see some information on the evolution of Wassaic and Borden Park, possibly a walking trail.  Tom LeJeune asked if the committee has looked at all possibilities before pursuing this.  It seems costly.

Ken Pomeisl spoke regarding the budget and the need to set up a capital budget.

He stated we need to paint the bleachers and winter guard the fields for this year.

Adjourned meeting at 9:15 p.m.

Sincerely,

Peter Clair
