PUBLIC COMMENT

Pat Nelligan

Mr. Nelligan said he was upset that there was a two minute time limit at last weeks workshop meeting.  He said he felt that decisions were being made by a few individuals and not by the entire board.

 

Katharine Dunlop

Ms. Dunlop said that she is concerned with the issue of speeding in the hamlets of Amenia and Wassaic.  She added that it is not safe for pedestrians.

 

Taconic DDSO- John Mizerack

Mr. Mizerack introduced himself to the Town Board as Director of Taconic DDSO.

He said he was in attendance for public relations purposes and would like to discuss a few items about the state campus.  He said that the campus is 75 years old and consists of about 50 buildings.   Mr.   Mizerack said there have been rumors that they house youthful sex offenders or juvenile delinquents and that this is not true.  He said that they have about 190 consumers that live there is about 643 consumers that live in houses in the 5 county region.  He said that they can house up to 250 consumers .  He said some of the buildings are in disrepair because of asbestos issues but the campus is still considered to be a 24 hour /7 day a week facility that will not be closing any time soon.

Councilwoman Doyle said that the Town might be interested in the sewage treatment facility and its capabilities.

Mr. Mizerack responded that would be an entirely different department.

Councilwoman Doyle said that this new proposed law will give the Town Board more power to require builders and developers with escrow accounts.

Re-Evaluation

Supervisor Hundt said that next Thursday, John Watch from MJW consulting will be giving a presentation regarding the Re-Evaluation proposal.  She said the public is encouraged to attend to ask questions.

LAND ACQUISITION

Councilwoman Doyle said that she drafted letters to be sent to the owners of Harlem Valley Landfill and Richard Allen Sand & Gravel voicing interest in their land to be purchased for Town use and attempting to acquire a purchase price for the property if it is for sale.

 

Silo Ridge

Councilwoman Doyle said that she would like to request help from the Dutchess County Planning Department

SUPERVISORS REPORT

Supervisor Hundt thanked the Amenia Fire Company for their actions taken for the mold situation

Supervisor Hundt said that he Garden Tour will be held on June 27th from 1-4pm

Supervisor Hundt said that she attending the ground breaking ceremony for the Wassaic extension of the railtrail.

Supervisor Hundt read Town Attorney Arabella Teals’ resignation.

Councilman Carroll said he contemplated last weeks meeting and the arguments that took place at the workshop were uncalled for so he said that he and everyone should make an effort to work together.

Councilwoman Doyle said that there will be a meeting on July 1st at the Wassaic Firehouse at 7pm regarding Open space with Matt Zeipher speaking.  She said that she would like to include Mary Maillet to be acknowledged  for her service on the Amenia rescue squad.  Councilwoman Doyle said that Jodi Hall expressed interest in serving on a few committees within the Town.

Sidewalks

Councilman Carroll said that a section of the sidewalk in Wassaic has caved in and the Town has contacted Dave Luther to see if a retaining wall can be placed in this area and shrubs planted in this section when the new sidewalks are put in.   He said Mr. Luther will get back to him shortly.

Councilman Carroll said the highway superintendent will be coordinating efforts with the County for this project in September.

Councilman Carroll said that he and Councilwoman Doyle and the Highway Superintendent met with New York State Electric and Gas regarding the Main Street in Wassaic and possibly running some of the electrical lines underground.

 

RECREATION

Peter Clair

Mr. Clair said that the baseball season is coming to a close with a pizza party scheduled for this Saturday at 11:30am.  He thanked Art Peters, Ken Pomaseil, and Pete McCaffrey for their time.

He said that they are working on a proposal to sell signs to businesses to post on the fence on the outfield to raise funds for recreation.  He said the area can hold up to 48 (2'x4') signs and the cost would be $50. include the “Old Coons Tournament” and a downtown Wassaic tag sale day.

He said that he has been contacted by Andy Durbridge that the concert proposal by Bob Cooke can be funded privately; he said he felt it was a good idea but the Recreation committee could not support it financially.

Enhancement Committee

Councilwoman Doyle said that they have decided to divide the plans for downtown into two sections that would be Route 343 project and Mechanic Street project.  She said that the speed limit has been an issue that has been identified with the D.O. T..  She said that Jim Rapoli had recommended a change from 35 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour in sections of Town

Peter Riva

Mr. Riva said that the speed reductions need to be taken and that it is also for the safety of those who walk in Town.  He said that he encourages all public notices be sent to the Town website

Andy Durbridge

Mr. Durbridge said that they are in the final phase of the plans for plantings around the Town of Amenia signs.  He said there have been requests made to add more signs.  He said that the Garden tour and brochure with map are available on the Towns website and tickets and information are available at the library.

 

Supervisor Hundt said the next Wastewater meeting will be held Monday, June 21st at 5pm

and the next Emergency Response meeting will be at 11:00 on June 21st .
